About the Opportunity
VictorEric Design Group Ltd. is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Architectural Design Technologist to join our team in Vancouver, BC. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in developing building designs for various projects, taking them from the concept stage to construction-ready sets of drawings. You will work collaboratively with our team and engage with municipal contacts to ensure compliance with building codes, inspection processes, and bylaws, focusing on both wood-framed and concrete building construction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize your extensive years of experience in the local, residential industry to contribute valuable insight to the design process
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of sustainable design principles including NetZero, Passive House, and BC Step Code, while adhering to relevant building codes and standards
- Employ your expertise in AutoCAD or Revit to create design concept models and detailed working drawings, tailored to meet the specific requirements of our clients
- Deliver accurate and comprehensive construction-ready blueprints that comply with local zoning regulations and bylaws
- Maintain project deadlines as assigned, and status updates in project management software using Coconstruct
- Provide post-design support (Construction Administration), including issuing revision sketches, site instructions, and change orders as necessary during construction
- Foster and maintain relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and sub-trades to ensure the availability of required materials and services for projects
- Prepare sketches and sample boards for presentation to both permitting municipalities and clients, showcasing the project’s vision and design intent
- Conduct site visits to review trades’ work and promptly address any construction-related queries or issues that may arise
- Collaborate closely with interior designers, suppliers, and contractors to optimize space utilization and construction methods within the defined project scope
- Coordinate effectively with internal team members and external stakeholders to address any project-related challenges or inquiries
- Provide mentorship and support to a team of Junior Building Design Technologist, fostering their professional growth and development
About You
To qualify, you will need at least 6 years of experience in the local custom single-family home design field, with intimate knowledge of city bylaws particularly in Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, North Vancouver, and West Vancouver, along with:
- Proficient knowledge of zoning bylaws, building codes, municipal laws, inspection routines, and permit application process
- Post-secondary diploma or equivalent in Building Technology, Drafting Technician, Architectural programs, or related studies
- At least 3 years experience in architectural drafting and design, with strong skills in AutoCAD or Revit, either through formal training, work experience, or a combination of both
Moreover, the following will be considered an asset:
- Strong background in design, architecture, and construction of single-family, wood-frame construction
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience in custom-builds for single-family residential projects
- Good sense of design and aesthetics
We are also looking for a motivated candidate with outstanding leadership skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, excellent time management, and the ability to multitask.
Since you will be our liaison with clients, city planners, officials, consultants, engineers, and architects, you will be joining us with exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively connect different internal and external stakeholders as required.
