The Medicine Hat location also provides engineering and technical support to organizations wishing to use the Suffield Experimental Proving Ground (EPG) and other specialized facilities at DRDC Suffield.

About the Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a full-time Mechanical Engineer / Technologist to join our team on-site in Medicine Hat, AB
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager (Military Engineering and Automation / PLCs), or the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for providing project management and technical support to a variety of Amtech’s military engineering, CBR product development, automation / BMS controls, and aeronautical engineering projects.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Collaborating in engineering teams with Amtech employees, subcontractors, and clients, offering technical support in structural and mechanical technology
- Acting as the project mechanical lead or as part of a multi-disciplinary team for Amtech engineering and technical projects with responsibility for the coordination of the mechanical side of the project team, liaisoning with the client and providing management and oversight of the project budget and schedule
- Supporting Amtech's military, aeronautical, automation, and CBR projects alongside fellow technologists and CADD specialists
- Preparing engineering data including engineering reports, test plans, and drawings as well as developing finite element geometric models
- Assisting the company in implementing a solids modelling capability, and in using this capability on revenue projects
- Contributing to Amtech's drawing standards and CADD software development
- Representing Amtech to potential clients, aiding in business development, and fostering new product ideas
- Assisting in achieving ISO standards certification where applicable
- Engaging in fieldwork at DRDC-SRC and other test sites
- Providing engineering support for Amtech's CBR Technologies and Products business initiatives and projects in this area, including but not limited to CBR product manufacture, product and technology improvements, conducting aerosol test chamber testing, and other related activities
About You
To qualify, you will need to be a graduate of an accredited technical school as an aeromechanical, structural, or mechanical engineering technologist, a graduate of an AME program, or a graduate of an accredited university engineering program (aeronautics/aerospace, structures, or mechanical); candidates with relevant and demonstrated experience who are not graduates of an accredited program may also be considered. You must also have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience (candidates with up to five years of relevant experience preferred). You must also be eligible to obtain/hold a Canadian passport (due to the security requirements of this role you must be a Canadian citizen).
Note: In order to access confidential documents and restricted airport areas, you may be required to provide information as necessary to obtain and maintain Transport Canada and other Government of Canada security clearances. You may be required to sign miscellaneous security agreements including but not restricted to office key agreements, data and intellectual property non-disclosure agreements, and corporate credit card agreements.
The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:
- Eligibility for registration with the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET), the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or other equivalent provincial bodies, and eligibility for, or willingness to qualify for registration as a Certified Engineering Technologist or Professional Engineer, as required
- Working knowledge in the preparation of mechanical systems drawings
- Familiarity with and working knowledge of aeronautical and military specifications, hardware and equipment including wiring, cable and connector specifications
- You must currently hold and maintain a valid driver's license
- Experience in Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) using AutoCAD®, Inventor or similar software
- Experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), finite elements, or explosive physics simulations
- Experience in the preparation of technical reports and test plans
- Experience in data analysis and reduction
- Experience in 3D printing/prototyping
- Experience in product lifecycle phases
- Experience in all aspects of a project including the development of requirements specifications/design/prototyping/testing/revision/parts selection and installation
- Some knowledge of Transport Canada, FAA or European aircraft design standards and certification processes (asset)
- A mechanical background, hands-on experience, working in a shop, previous mechanical work experience (asset)
Mandatory Conditions of Employment
- You may be required to obtain/hold a Canadian passport or foreign passport appropriate for the travel requirements of your position with Amtech
- You will also be required, subject to reasonable notice and reimbursement of expenses under Amtech’s Travel and Living policy, to occasionally travel to client or test sites for periods of time from several days to two weeks. On rare occasions, travel to remote locations for longer periods of time may be required
