About the Opportunity
Currently, Blue Mountain Power Co-op is looking for a full-time Journeyman Powerline Technician to join their team in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.
Reporting to Lead Hand PLT, you will be responsible for the construction, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electrical power and distribution systems for the Blue Mountain Power Co-op (BMPC). The position is also responsible for maintaining the reliability of BMPC’s electrical system and ensuring the safety of members, the general public and the staff of BMPC.
Your duties will also include, but are not limited to:
- Attending and actively participating in health and safety meetings, including the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) when required
- Promoting and applying safe work practices within a team environment, leading by example
- Regularly reviewing and identifying deficiencies, recommending corrections to JHAs, work procedures, and competency evaluations
- Ensuring ongoing compliance with internal Policies and Procedures, including OH&S requirements
- Observing, reporting, and promptly rectifying incidents, substandard practices, or conditions
- Participating in ongoing investigations, including public line contacts, fires, and internal incidents
- Conducting and participating in comprehensive worksite hazard assessments
- Providing leadership, mentoring, and fostering team building among direct reports
- Monitoring and reporting work performance, while training and orienting new staff
- Continuously assessing and addressing safety-related factors through visual inspections at each site
- Directing apprentices and labourers safely and efficiently during operations
- Proactively communicating with landowners to address any concerns related to the work being performed
- Planning, conducting, and actively participating in regular inspections
- Managing multiple projects and competing demands, demonstrating exceptional organization and time management skills
- Troubleshooting electrical system problems and implementing effective solutions
About You
In order to qualify for this role, you will need a high school diploma or equivalent diploma, and you must be a Licensed Journeyman Power Line Technician in Alberta or have a Red Seal Interprovincial equivalent. You will also need to have at least 3-5 years of experience as a Journeyman PLT.

- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to work at heights and skilled in climbing poles
- Proficient in interpreting area maps
- Ability to make informed decisions and respond to environmental factors
- Adaptability to stressful and time-sensitive situations
- Familiarity with working in environments with excessive noise and confined spaces
- Possess a valid driver's license (Minimum Class 3 with Q endorsement) and a clean driver's abstract
- Strong team player with a high degree of responsibility and self-motivation
- Willing and able to adhere to working hours outlined in the employee handbook, with occasional overtime requirements
Additionally, our ideal candidate enjoys being outdoors and surrounded by nature since fieldwork is conducted outdoors in all weather conditions and involves travel to rural parts of the county.
