About the Opportunity

More than just retail. Come make a difference. We are currently seeking motivated Department Managers to join our grocery teams in retail locations across Northern Canada on a full-time basis. These are on-site opportunities that would require relocation. NWC provides relocation assistance, as well as food and housing allowances.

Some of the locations we may be hiring for are*: 

  • Nunavut (Kugluktuk, Goja Haven, Igloolik, etc.)
  • Northwest Territories 
  • Northern Saskatchewan (Patuanak, Southend, Stony Rapids, etc.)
  • Northern Manitoba 
  • Northern Ontario (Kasabonika, Bearskin Lake, Sandy Lake, Poplar Hill, etc.)
  • Northern Quebec (Inukjuak, Kangirsuk, Salluit, Puvirnituq, Umiujaq, Radisson, etc.)

As a Department Manager, your responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks, including overseeing the day-to-day activities of your team, managing inventory levels to meet customer demands, and ensuring the department is clean, organized, and well-stocked. You will be responsible for setting and achieving sales targets, analyzing sales data, and implementing strategies to enhance profitability.  

More specifically, your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Providing excellent customer service by creating strong customer relationships 
  • Managing the Grocery Department to ensure sales and profits are maximized, while ensuring that everything is stocked and maintained throughout the day and rotated to guarantee freshness
  • Developing departmental business plans in order to meet or exceed sales/gross profit goals
  • Ensuring daily operations consistently meet the standards outlined in the Best Practices Manual for Retail Basics
  • Ensuring operating goals are met by monitoring performance, following merchandising practices, supporting promotions, maintaining operational standards and controls
  • Participating as a key member of the store team, providing leadership to the team, and supporting the Store Manager

As an essential part of the team, you will need to be able to work on a flexible schedule, while being excited to serve your customers and your community.

More About You

To qualify, you will need to be a high school graduate and have 2+ years of experience working in a high-volume grocery or retail environment. 

The following skills and experience are also essential:

  • Demonstrated skills with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook 
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Experience working with records of bottom lines and sales results
  • Strong knowledge of grocery operating principles
  • Proven record of organization and planning skills in a busy environment

As our ideal candidate, you are self-motivated, detail-oriented, adventurous, and able to work flexibly with rapidly changing timelines. You are also physically fit and able to lift up to 50+ pounds, and stand for extended periods.
