About Ulkatcho First Nation
The Ulkatcho First Nation is one of four communities making up the Dakelh or Southern Carrier tribal nation in central British Columbia. The Ulkatcho community and offices are located in scenic Anahim Lake, with access to unparalleled natural beauty at the western edge of the Chilcotin District.
The Ulkatcho government is responsible for 22 reserves with a population of 729 members living on reserve, and another 200 living off reserve. Our expansive traditional territory includes the waters flowing west on the Chilcotin Plateau and includes Tweedsmuir Park.

About the Opportunity
Ulkatcho First Nation has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Education and Training to join our team based out of our Anahim Lake, BC office.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for administering the education programme for all UFN students and will be the main Point of Contact for UFN Post Secondary students.
Your key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Providing support and administration to ensure the success of students
- Assisting in the supervision and oversight of the Adult Education Program
- Overseeing the operation of the Nagwuntl’oo School
- Managing anywhere between 10-12 staff members
- Maintaining the integrity of the Education Department and implementing education policies
- Reviewing and recommending changes to UFN’s Education Policy
- Coordinating the planning, execution, and completion of projects
- Understanding, implementing and rationalizing processes where required
- Supervising the Adult Education and Employment Department
- Working with the Band Operations Manager in providing strategic direction
- Developing proposal applications and writing reports
- Ensuring that the fiscal budget for the department optimizes funding dollars
- Performing other duties as required
About You
To qualify for this position, you must have a Master's Degree in Education or a related field, as well as 1-2 years of experience supervising a department, with 1-5 years of experience working in education as a principal and/or a teacher.
Furthermore, you must possess a deep understanding of First Nations cultures and language, preferably Carrier (Dakelh), and be familiar with the local history and with the Cariboo region as a whole.

- Ability to inspire, lead and guide teams, set strategic goals, and drive educational initiatives
- Proficiency in fostering collaboration, cooperation, and creating a supportive work environment
- Exceptional organizational abilities to develop comprehensive education plans and coordinate resources
- Proficient in budget management to ensure financial sustainability and optimize resource allocation as well as the ability to develop and present well-structured budgets aligned with educational goals
- Clear verbal and written communication skills, listening skills and people skills
- Demonstrates strategic thinking and the ability to make informed decisions aligned with long-term goals
- Successful navigation and collaboration with multiple levels of government and external agencies
- Skill in identifying funding opportunities and crafting compelling grant proposals
- Ability to promote Dakelh culture and language, dedicated to preserving and integrating cultural aspects into the educational framework
- Meets necessary licensing criteria, including a valid BC Driver's License and clear Driver's Abstract, along with a satisfactory Criminal Record check
- Experience in primary/early childhood education: Relevant background in primary or early childhood education, understanding pedagogical approaches and curriculum development
- Knowledge of or experience in running a daycare and working with children in K-12 age groups
