About the Opportunity
Currently, Homes First is looking for a dedicated Personal Support Worker to join our team in Toronto, Ontario on a full-time basis (37.5 hrs/week, with some flexibility). The hours of work will be Tuesday to Saturday, 12pm to 8pm.
This position assists clients who are housed within Homes First Society to maintain optimal health and mental health stability, while adhering to the mission statement and policies & procedures of our organization.
More specifically, your responsibilities will include:
- Assist clients with residency, meals, room cleaning, grooming and hygiene, laundry, recreational and leisure activities, and health monitoring
- Arrange, remind and/or escort clients to medical, psychiatric, dental, and diagnostic appointments and/or treatments
- Update client files accordingly, keep accurate records, and document daily information
More About You
In order to qualify for this role, you will have a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience working with mental health issues, and a Personal Support Worker Certification or equivalent work experience.
The following skills and qualifications are essential to this role:
- Certificates in First Aid, CPR, and Crisis Prevention are assets
- Knowledge of and/or experience with the homeless population, diversity issues, anti-discrimination practices, and systemic reasons for homelessness are assets
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent time management skills
- About to work independently and in inter-dependent teams
Please note that this role requires the ability to lift 20 pounds, as well as the ability to provide or conduct a criminal record check.
