About the Opportunity

Avalon has an opportunity for a full-time Senior Accountant to join their team. This position is based at our Calgary, AB office. 

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Producing accurate accounting reports and presenting their results
• Ensuring compliance with GAAP principles
• Performing monthly balance sheets, income statements and changes in financial position and budget variance analyses
• Supporting month-end and year-end closing process 
• Developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
• Spotting errors and suggesting ways to improve efficiency and spending
• Participating in financial standards setting and in forecast processing
• Preparing financial statements and producing budgets according to schedule
• Liaising with Avalon's Controller to improve financial procedures
• Assisting in the design and preparation of budgets for review by management

About You

To qualify, you must have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management, and 5+ years experience as a Senior Accountant or Auditor in the Real estate or construction industry. You will also need to have completed or are in the process of completing a Certified Public Accountant designation. 

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:

• Excellent organizational skills with a high degree of accuracy
• Familiarity with accounting software, such as Sage
• Demonstrated track record of accounting expertise, leadership, and finding different solutions
• Experience handling year-end audits
