About the Opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Disability Management Advisor, Human Resources to join our team in Delta, BC on a permanent, full-time basis. This is a hybrid role with a mix of working from home and from Boundary Bay airport in Delta, with a training period taking place fully in office.

The successful candidate is responsible for working closely with HR colleagues and leadership to identify, plan, coordinate, and implement employee health and wellness resources, initiatives, and strategies. You will be managing disability case files (occupational and non-occupational), including facilitating a safe, timely, and sustainable return to work, workplace modifications, and accommodations for ill, injured, or differently abled employees. 

More specifically, your main duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring safe stay-at-work and/or return-to-work plans for employees with injury or illness
  • Coordinating disability case management of ill and injured employees, including early intervention and provision of services and referrals, to implement cost-effective strategies to decrease absence 
  • Providing advice and managing disability management processes for employees, including topics such as policy and procedures, enrolment, acceptance/denial of disability claims, reinstatements, individual/group transfers, disability management practices, and other related matters
  • Collaborating with Occupational Health and Safety, providing services to employees that require injury, medical, and/or rehabilitation support 
  • Assessing and facilitating return-to-work plans for all employees 
  • Supporting wellness programs by implementing related initiatives; providing mental health-related education and ensuring timely execution of wellness initiatives
  • Assessing employees’ fitness for work based on bona fide medical and functional information
  • Developing, in collaboration with the employee and their care providers, individualized plans that facilitate an injured or ill employee’s return to work or stay at work that meets the employee’s functional ability
  • Promoting best practices in disability management through communication, provision of expert advice, and training of employees, managers, union representatives, HR, and others
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all employees enrolled in the disability management program
  • Participating as a member of the HR team and assisting in the delivery of designated HR-related training programs, supporting the Director and Manager in developing HR reports and metrics
  • Providing input in the development of department goals, work plans, and budgets, participating in HR initiatives/activities, and taking a lead role in designated benefits projects and initiatives

More About You

In order to qualify for this role, you will need 2-3 years of related experience, preferably in an unionized environment, with a diploma or degree in Human Resources being a strong asset. Credentials in Disability Management/Occupational Health & Wellness or experience in the areas of disability management coordination/support of wellness programs are preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 

As our ideal candidate, you have sound experience in the development and execution of disability claims and case management. You possess experience and knowledge of the Workers' Compensation Act, Human Rights, privacy legislation, and collective agreement language, with advanced Microsoft Office/HR information systems skills. As our new Advisor, you are able to liaise with a variety of stakeholders in a courteous and tactful manner, with superior communication and interpersonal skills. You are able to work well both as a member of a team and independently, with the ability to apply discretion and sound judgment to sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality. 

We are looking for someone who is highly detail-oriented and responsible, with strong organizational and time management ability to meet set deadlines. Above all, you are collaborative with exceptional decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
