About the Opportunity

Currently, Associated Environmental Consultants are looking for a full-time Fisheries Biologist/Aquatic Scientist to join their team in Vernon, BC.

The Intermediate Fisheries Biologist will be responsible for program design and implementation, project management, and client and business development. You will tackle a wide variety of environmental work primarily on local and regional infrastructure engineering projects through all project phases, including occasional travel and remote work. 

Your duties will also include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with a small team, training and mentoring junior staff
  • Designing and overseeing studies and coordinating field surveys
  • Managing complex multi-disciplinary projects including budgets and liaising with clients, colleagues and contractors
  • Preparing and reviewing high-quality technical reports and work plans for technical programs and writing winning proposals
  • Leading municipal, provincial and federal regulatory processes
  • Bridging cultural differences between engineering and environmental values and explaining the importance of regulatory processes
  • Developing and managing relationships with industry, government and Indigenous clients
  • Contributing to the growth and scientific development of the company
  • Participating in business development, such as preparing proposals, making contact with clients, and attending meetings

About You

In order to qualify for this role, you will need an Undergraduate Degree in Biology, Fisheries or Aquatic Science, as well as Professional Registration (i.e. R.P.Bio. or P.Biol.). You will also need 5+ years of experience in an environmental consulting role along with a valid driver's license.

The following skills and experience are also required:

  • Adaptability to a wide variety of work types and sizes
  • Creativity and ability to think out of the box
  • Leadership and mentoring skills
  • An aptitude for developing and maintaining client relationships
  • Ability to manage project tasks, budgets, and schedules to produce client deliverables
  • Experience writing winning cost proposals and work plans
  • Practical experience in fish population and aquatic ecology assessments, riparian assessments, offsetting and habitat design, stream channel processes, and streamflow and fish habitat interactions
  • Study design, field assessment, statistical analysis and interpretation experience
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis software (asset)
