About the Opportunity
The Lynwood Unified School District currently has an excellent opportunity for Science Teachers (Secondary School) to join our team in Lynwood, CA on a full-time basis.
As part of a secondary teaching assignment, you will teach one or more classes of Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Life Science, or Physical Science) to pupils in Grades 7-12, and assist in other school programs as assigned.
In this role, your principal duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Teaching skills, knowledge, and scientific attitudes through courses in life science, earth sciences, biology, chemistry, physics, or physiology
- Utilizing course of study and other appropriate learning activities, including developmental or pilot science programs approved by the district
- Instructing pupils in citizenship, basic science skills, and other aspects of the courses of study
- Planning a balanced science program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions, student experiments, and laboratory activities
- Instructing pupils in proper use, care, safe handling, and storage of chemicals, science equipment, and varied materials
- Establishing and maintaining standards of pupil behavior needed to promote a productive learning environment at all times
- Developing, with assistance of pupils, interest centers, models, and displays, including books and similar materials to motivate learning
- Evaluating each pupil’s growth in knowledge, skills, and scientific attitudes in course being taught, and preparing progress reports
- Selecting and requesting books, instructional aides, science equipment, chemicals, glassware and supplies, as required
- Maintaining professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities
More About You
In order to qualify for this role, you must possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a major or minor in Science, ideally with possession of a California Single Subject Teaching Credential, although this is not required as long as you have all the courses needed to meet the credential requirements. Finally, you must meet ESEA Highly Qualified teacher requirements.
We are looking for innovative teachers that will implement a hands-on, experimental, and project-based learning model to their classroom. Your ability to create a collaborative learning environment for your students is pivotal to your success in this role. As our ideal candidate, you also possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting, respectful relationships with your students, their parents, and other faculty and school employees.
Please note that successful candidates will need to provide the following prior to employment being confirmed:
- Resume summarizing educational preparation and experience
- Three (3) current professional letters of reference from present and/or past supervisor (within 1 year)
- Copy transcripts of all university or college course work completed (Official upon hiring)
- Copy of valid credential as specified under the head of “Minimum Qualifications” for this position
