About the Opportunity
Ashbury College has exciting opportunities for a Groundskeeper or a Junior Building Operator to join our campus in Ottawa, ON on a full-time basis. Work shifts have regular work hours and two consecutive days off, with occasional early morning shifts or irregular hours.
The Groundskeeper will be responsible for maintaining our campus premises, and common areas in a clean and orderly condition, along with duties such as:
- Grounds work, including lawn mowing (using walk-behind gas mowers), trimming, edging, and leaf blowing
- Tree pruning and planting of perennials and annuals
- Exterior masonry and fence work
- Winter snow removal, along with spring and fall clean-up
- Perform other related cleanings, basic maintenance, and incidental duties as assigned
The Junior Building Operator will manage the school’s mechanical and safety systems, inspect and perform preventative maintenance of the current plant facilities, and assist the Facilities Manager in the day-to-day maintenance of the school, along with duties such as:
- Perform audits on Life Safety Systems including ELs, FEs, and FHCs
- Perform minor carpentry, electrical, and plumbing in both a commercial and residential environment
- Assist other Operations staff in day-to-day activities including moving furniture and reconfiguring classrooms, meeting rooms, and offices
More About You
In order to qualify for the Groundskeeper role, you must have basic groundskeeping skills, while being comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, and the ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25kg. You will need to have strong organizational and collaboration skills, as well as be detail-oriented and thorough.
In order to qualify for the Junior Building Operator role, you must have 3+ years of experience with building mechanical systems and other building services and equipment, as well as interpersonal/supervisory skills due to assisting with the supervision of up to 8 other Operations staff.
A level of physical fitness will be required, along with a commitment to fostering workplace safety. A valid driver's license is preferred.
