An Opportunity to Make a Difference

We are growing and are currently looking for a full-time Financial Controller and a Senior Accountant to join our team. These roles can follow either a fully remote or a hybrid work model, in our West Vancouver, BC office.

With varying levels of responsibilities, both roles will be tasked with building relationships with team members within charities and non-profit organizations, and providing support in developing their accounting and finance department functions. You will assist our clients by providing controllership services, ensuring regulatory compliance, as well as accuracy and completeness of their financial reporting and budgeting.

More specifically, your responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Assisting clients by providing controllership services, ensuring regulatory compliance, as well as accuracy and completeness of financial reporting and budgeting
  • Onboarding new clients by analyzing the status of their finances and financial department
  • Building positive relationships with clients by thorough consultations on accounting best practices
  • Mobilizing junior accounting employees to address client-related issues and questions
  • Coaching and mentoring junior accounting members on tasks that include bookkeeping, working papers, journal entry adjustments, year-end working papers, financial statements, etc.
  • Preparing the more complex compilation of financial statements and working papers for our clients
  • Providing direction and support throughout the year to our client's bookkeepers
  • Monitoring client compliance deadlines including tax installments, GST returns, PST returns, payroll remittances, year-end charity returns, etc.
  • Developing clients' budget and reporting frameworks, as well as an operational, funder, and program/project budgets
  • Working with Executive Directors, Board of Directors, and management to develop appropriate internal controls for their organization
  • Organizing the clients' internal financial staffing, job descriptions, and workflow
  • Guiding and advising the clients' Board of Directors and Executive teams on topics such as effective corporate governance, best practices, etc.
  • Managing, building, and growing our existing client relationships as well as adding Humanity Financial's value to their organization

More About You

To qualify as a Senior Accountant, you will need a minimum of 2 years of strong accounting and top-to-bottom bookkeeping experience.

To qualify as a Controller, you will need a minimum of 3 years of strong accounting and top-to-bottom bookkeeping experience.

The following skills or experience will be critical for the roles:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field
  • CPA Designation
  • Knowledge of various accounting software (e.g., Quickbooks, SAGE 50, Xyntax, Adagio, etc.)
  • Leadership skills and the ability to guide and mentor a small team

In addition, the following background or experience will be considered valuable assets, but are not required:

  • Exposure to multiple clients across varying industries
  • Experience working with clients in the nonprofit or charitable sector
  • Indigenous or First Nations organizations
  • CPB (Certified Professional Bookkeeper) designation
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) designation
  • CMP (Change Management Professional) designation
  • ICD.D (Institute of Corporate Directors) designation
  • Account management and client-facing customer service
