About the Opportunity
Northern Savings Credit Union has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic General Manager of Insurance to join us in our Terrace, B.C. office, on a full-time basis.
Reporting to the CEO, you will be part of the leadership team and play a part in shaping the future of Northern Savings. Your exceptional leadership skills will help you manage the daily operations of our Terrace insurance branch, while overlooking the overall success of our insurance branches in Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii.
In this senior role, you're responsible for the provision of exemplary customer service, employee engagement, mitigation of current and emerging risks, and the overall financial health of our branches. As our ideal candidate, you will professionally demonstrate positive leadership within your business unit, the Credit Union as a whole, and externally in the community.
More specifically, your key responsibilities will include:
- Meeting with the CEO to strategize the future of Northern Savings insurance subsidiary
- Maintaining knowledge of internal and external insurance market in regard to services, products, rates, and fees
- Maintaining knowledge of Credit Union products and services in order to refer customers to the branch, Businesses Services, and Financial Planning
- Identifying initiatives to facilitate the Credit Union’s corporate social responsibility, and working with staff and community leaders in fulfilling commitments
- Actively seeking new customers for the insurance subsidiary and seeking to provide additional insurance for a customer’s full needs
- Coaching employees to increase performance in regard to sales, customer service, and product knowledge
- Identifying process and team improvements, sharing with other applicable units and with Corporate Office
- Addressing day to day administrative issues on a timely basis, and facilitating resolutions
- Identifying inherent risk to products and operations, and implementing appropriate responses to mitigate to an acceptable tolerance
- Actively monitoring the level of policy renewals and new policies, commissions, expenses, and taking action to meet established financial goals and/or advising sound reasons for adjustments
- Ensuring operations meet compliance and regulatory requirements as well as abiding by corporate-level policy
- Maintaining approval authority for transactions outside staff limits and delegating appropriate limits to staff members
- Travelling to our Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii branches, and providing support to other leaders in person, by phone/video, or email as necessary
More About You
In order to qualify for this role, you will need to have completion of post-secondary education, a Level 3 insurance license, and a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in insurance sales and service. Previous leadership experience and demonstrated sales skills are required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is also required, while experience using Insurance Software is a strong asset.

You possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise professionally with clients, potential customers, community groups, and co-workers, while maintaining confidentiality.
