About the Opportunity

The County of Simcoe currently has an opportunity for a Database Applications Specialist I to join our team in our Midhurst, ON office on a full-time basis. This is a flexible hybrid position with 2 days in office/week!

The Database Applications Specialist provides systems analysis and design support for corporate database systems, Business Intelligent/Analytics environment and web-based applications, including vendor liaison during implementation, programming support, troubleshooting, and operational support for all database and program maintenance functions. This role is responsible for the overall technical management of large and complex database systems including systems security, authorized access, and business continuity.

Your essential responsibilities in this role will include: 

  • Providing programming expertise in the design and development of database systems within the County's technical environment
  • Architecting high performance, highly reliable database systems and adjusting them to ensure adherence to specified performance metrics
  • Ensuring the integrity of the various environments through the implementation and management of processes and procedures for testing and promoting code
  • Designing applications logic, including relational and hierarchical data structures, queries, numeric calculations, workflow, and systems integration processes
  • Administering access rights and passwords to corporate databases and applications
  • Providing technical troubleshooting of operational failures, processing errors, and performance problems
  • Undertaking systems analysis and design for new software applications, including client consultation, modelling of current systems, evaluation of technical and end user requirements, and identification of alternative solutions
  • Preparing program documentation, training on new systems, and ongoing support for all end users

More About You

In order to qualify for this role, you will need a minimum of 4 years of experience in IT, developing and maintaining complex corporate database systems, as well as experience using at least 2 of the following core technologies: MS-SQL, MS-SSIS (or equivalent ETL tool), .NET, SAP-Netweaver, Service Oriented Architecture, Business intelligence. Your previous work experience will include a minimum of 2 years with reporting and database development. Our ideal candidate will also have post-secondary education in Information Tech, Computer Science, or a related discipline, as well as experience with the following:

  • Web technologies (HTLM(5), XML, Javascript, REST, JSON, APIs, SAP UI5/Fiori)
  • Technical writing skills required to document systems procedures and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge and experience developing in SAP ECC or S/4HANA (preferred)
  • Certification in the Business Intelligence (BI) Microsoft stack related BI certification (preferred)
  • ITIL Certification (preferred)
  • Relevant experience supporting a production environment, support management, and continuous improvement
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting/maintaining BI, Reporting Platforms, Databases and/or web applications and Interfaces

You possess problem-solving and critical thinking skills that allow you to diagnose problems and determine steps necessary to achieve an effective solution. You will also have the ability to communicate effectively with users with varying levels of computer understanding.

Furthermore, you will join us with the ability to work effectively with constant interruptions; ability to work simultaneously on several projects independently, and to use good judgment in determining priorities.
