About the Opportunity

Northern Savings Credit Union has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Insurance Manager to join us in our Terrace, B.C. office, on a full-time basis.

In this role, you will be leading the provision of exemplary customer service, engagement of employees, managing the operations efficiently and effectively, taking action to mitigate current and emerging risks, and monitoring the financial health of the unit while contributing to the operations of Northern Savings Insurance Services and the Credit Union as a whole. As our ideal candidate, the Insurance Manager professionally demonstrates positive leadership within their business unit, the Credit Union, and externally in the community. They are accountable for producing insurance-specific financial results and customer service excellence. 

More specifically, some of your key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining knowledge of internal and external insurance market with regards to services, products, rates, and fees
  • Maintaining knowledge of Credit Union products and services in order to refer customers to the branch, Businesses Services, and Financial Planning
  • Identifying initiatives to facilitate the Credit Union’s corporate social responsibility in the community and working with staff and community leaders in fulfilling commitments
  • Organizing the delivery of products and services to achieve customer service excellence
  • Actively seeking new customers for the insurance subsidiary and actively seeking to provide additional insurance for a customer’s full needs
  • Providing coaching to enhance employee performance with respect to sales, quality of customer service, processing and delivery of policies, handling of claims, and interpersonal skills
  • Delivering effective ongoing performance feedback for staff
  • Identifying process improvements and improvements within the unit, sharing with other applicable units and with Corporate Office
  • Addressing day to day administrative issues on a timely basis, and facilitating resolutions
  • Identifying inherent risk to products and operations, and implementing appropriate risk responses to mitigate to an acceptable tolerance
  • Actively monitoring the level of policy renewals and new policies, commissions, expenses, and taking action to meet established financial goals and/or advising sound reasons for adjustments
  • Ensuring operations meet compliance and regulatory requirements as well as abiding by corporate-level policy
  • Proactively identifying inherent risk to products and operations, implementing appropriate risk responses to mitigate to an acceptable tolerance
  • Maintaining approval authority for transactions outside staff limits and delegating appropriate limits to staff members

More About You

In order to qualify for this role, you will need to have completion of post-secondary education, a Level 3 insurance license, and 3-5 years of experience in insurance sales and service. Previous leadership experience and demonstrated sales skills are required. Experience using Insurance Software is preferred.

As our ideal candidate, you have the ability to prioritize, organize work within time constraints, and handle competing priorities. You possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise professionally with clients, potential customers, community groups, and co-workers while maintaining confidentiality. You are a team player, with the ability to motivate your team members and lead with confidence. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required for this role.
