Serving the remote northern communities of Bearskin Lake, Sachigo Lake, North Caribou Lake, Cat Lake, Koocheching, Whitewater Lake First Nations, and Slate Falls Nation, the Windigo First Nations Council (WFNC) works to deliver a number of programs and services that improve the quality of life of our community members.
As a collective, we plan and deliver programs and services in the health, education, financial, resource, and economic development sectors. About the Opportunity
Currently, WFNC is looking for a full-time Project Manager based in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. This role is a part of Windigo Technical Services Unit, that provides project management, technical advisory services, field investigations, environmental services, and complete reporting, to support community building / infrastructure. Our projects' scope include housing, water/sewer servicing, community facilities, economic development, and overall operations & maintenance of the seven WFNC remote communities.
Reporting to the Technical Unit Manager, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Planning, delivering, and managing projects for facilities and community servicing construction in the remote First Nations
- Tendering and awarding public sector and privately funded infrastructure projects
- Liaising between First Nation (client) and contracted professional service providers
- Completing annual report on investment plans and capital projects completed in the WFNC communities
- Planning and delivering operations and maintenance with community's awareness, input, needs, and collaboration
- Reviewing plans and conducting preliminary surveying and field inspections including data collection
- Making recommendations to improve policies, procedures, and practices
- Conducting site visits as requested by communities to provide technical assistance
- Assisting communities in pursuing funding initiatives and grants for applicable projects
- Implementing technical/management training opportunities and workshops for the First Nations members
- Assisting in the day-to-day operations and procedures of the technical department
- Representing the Technical Unit at community meetings
About You
To qualify, you will need a post secondary degree or diploma in a discipline pertinent to the job function such as Architectural Technology, Building Science, Civil, Mechanical, Geotechnical, Environmental Sciences, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
WFNC is open to candidates with a wide range of experience, either as a Junior Project Manager (e.g, new graduates with limited years of field experience) or a Senior Project Manager (5+ years of experience)!
General knowledge or background in the following are also required to succeed in this role:
- Reading and interpreting plans, specifications, codes, and by-laws
- Computer proficiency in software programs (e.g., MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, etc.)
- Valid Driver's License and ability to travel
In addition, the following knowledge, skills, and education are considered assets, but are not required:
- National or provincial building codes, either in Ontario or other provinces
- Registered or eligible for registration in Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (O.A.C.E.T.T.) or Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
- Business planning, budgeting, and funding applications
- Data collection, preferably, in First Nations communities
- Aboriginal cultural traditions and practices
- Ability to communicate in Oji-Cree
