An Opportunity to Make an Impact

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join our team in Vancouver, BC on a full-time basis. There is flexibility to work from home during the pandemic if required.

This role will see you working to drive efficiencies and improve how we operate with a focus on helping our organization continue to achieve its mission and help people who need our services. 

Reporting to the Manager of Finance, you will be responsible for overseeing our financial analysis and decision support functions, including regular forecasts for the Executive Management Team and external stakeholders. This pivotal role includes budget development, scenario planning, business case development, and multi-year projections.

You will manage the operations and performance of a staff team of 3, as well as contractors, while also providing advice and assistance to divisional Vice Presidents and Managers on accounting and budgetary matters, budget preparation, and the preparation of financial reports. This role may also act for the Manager of Finance as required.  

While no two days will be alike in this exciting and strategic role, your key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing the budget development models and complex forecasting tools.
  • Preparing business cases, funding requests, scenario planning, and multi-year forecasts. 
  • Providing advice, assistance, and decision support on all financial planning activities.
  • Assisting in the preparation of budgets, reviewing specific submissions, coordinating data, and reviewing operating and capital expenditures against approved budgets.
  • Hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating staff.
  • Providing leadership to your team by establishing staff goals, objectives, and training and development plans. 
  • Coordinating and delegating work projects to the team.
  • Acting for the Division in processing grievances by applying the collective agreement, as well as authorizing overtime, vacation, salary reviews, and job classifications. 
  • Supervising and negotiating contracts with consultants by monitoring and approving work and invoices for payment. 
  • Assisting in the year-end audit with external auditors by ensuring the completion of year-end working papers, financial statements, and associated notes. 
  • Directing the establishment and maintenance of our internal control systems by ensuring the reliability and accuracy of financial information and compliance with Government and LABC's policy.
  • Establishing and maintaining appropriate internal checks and controls to ensure information accuracy and the safeguarding of our assets. 
  • Serving as the financial reporting specialists for all internal and external report development and reporting system configuration, including reports for the Ministry, Foundations, and other stakeholders.
  • Preparing cash flow forecasts and making recommendations on investments. 
  • Maintaining current awareness of developments in financial and information systems as well as LABC management to identify new approaches for implementation. 

More About You

In order to qualify for this role, you will need a minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, financial planning, budget development, and preparing draft financial statements, along with a CPA designation.

Previous leadership experience is a plus, as is previous experience working within or with a crown, non-profit, or government organization. Previous experience with Sage 500 or a similar system is an asset.   

As our ideal candidate, you'll have considerable knowledge of accounting principles and practices relative to financial controls, internal auditing, and budgeting. You'll also join us with considerable knowledge of automated financial systems applications, functions, and operations.
