About Masset, BC

The small village of Masset is the largest town on Haida Gwaii. Located at the northern end of Graham Island, the largest of the more than 150 significant islands that comprise Haida Gwaii, Masset is the northern gateway to North Beach and Naikoon Provincial Park. About the Opportunity

In collaboration with Community Living BC (CLBC), and as part of our brand-new facility that supports and serves adults with developmental disabilities, HGSCP is looking for part-time and full-time Residence Workers, based out of Masset, BC.

Reporting to Community Living Contracts Manager (CLCM), you will provide daily living support to adult residents with developmental disabilities living in the CLBC staffed residence.

Specifically, the scope of your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participating in the general daily operations and upkeep of the CLBC staffed residence
  • Enhancing and supporting the quality of life for residents, by providing opportunities for full community involvement
  • Providing support while respecting the residents' space, boundaries, capabilities, and independence
  • Assisting the CLCM manager in assessing the residents’ immediate needs
  • Transporting and accompanying residents on social, recreational, and community outings/events
  • Providing information and recommendations to residents regarding community resources 
  • Completing housekeeping and meal preparation duties, as required
  • Managing potential crisis situations while providing crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, and emotional support
  • Attending and assisting appropriate educational training pertaining to the role
  • Maintaining professional and confidential case notes
  • For Residential Night Workers: responding to residents’ nighttime needs (medical or otherwise) that may arise, and deal with any behavioural challenges

About You

To qualify, you will need a minimum secondary education or equivalent. Candidates with background in social work, social services, community programs, or not-for-profit exposure, are highly encouraged to apply! However, we offer full training to anyone without prior experience, so if you're willing to learn and grow, we want to hear from you!

In addition, we also require the following:

  • Standard First Aid certification with a CPR-C component, or the ability to obtain one (2-day course or online course) 
  • Food-Safe Certification, or the ability to obtain one
  • Class 5 Driver's License, a reliable vehicle, and clean driver's abstract
  • Completion of Violence Prevention/De-escalation course (online and offered by HGSCP as part of on-the-job training provided)
  • Clean Criminal Records Check
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to complete online data/information entry for client file record keeping

The successful candidate will receive a wage in the range of $18.98 to $25.19 per hour, based on collective agreement, wage grids, and shift schedule. All regular CLBC Residence Worker positions also receive access to a wide range of employee benefits, including:
