About the Opportunity

The County of Lambton is seeking a highly motivated Facilities Supervisor, Long-Term Care to join our homes in either Petrolia or Sarnia, ON, on a full-time basis.

The Facilities Supervisor is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment in the long-term care home. The Supervisor develops, coordinates, and evaluates all environmental services to ensure that all standards, as set by the Ministry of Health Long-Term Care, Public Health, and all other agencies and regulatory agencies, are being met.

Some of your key responsibilities within this role will include:

  • Providing leadership and overseeing housekeeping, maintenance, and laundry staff - instructing staff in the safe use of equipment and work practices, and attending to staff issues, performance, workplace safety, and family and resident concerns
  • Developing annual goals and objectives for the Environmental Services departments that are obtainable, meaningful, measurable, and relevant to the home
  • Participating in the recruitment, selection, orientation, and training of staff, and conducting annual performance appraisal reviews of assigned staff
  • Controlling purchasing and expenditures, reviewing and analyzing all variances, and aiming to achieve budget targets 
  • Maintaining records for staff, equipment, buildings, MSDS, suppliers, contractors, and service providers - auditing, inspecting, and reviewing to ensure departments are in compliance 
  • Resolving minor building and equipment problems - making recommendations regarding repairs and maintenance while ensuring building and safety standards are met
  • Co-ordinating ongoing quality improvement and risk management activities through the monitoring and evaluation of all environmental services, to ensure these services are meeting the identified needs and achieving the desired outcomes
  • Ensuring the home is compliant with the Fire Code, Building Code, Electrical Code, Facility Emergency Measures, and Policies and Procedures, etc.
  • Keeping up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies, and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed

More About You

In order to qualify for this role, you will need to have a college diploma or university degree, preferably in a related field of study. You’ll also join us with experience in a leadership position in a health or social services sector, preferably in long-term care. A combination of leadership skills and experience will also be considered. 

As our ideal candidate, you possess diplomacy, tact, and communication (both verbal and written) skills. You have an understanding of appropriate federal, provincial, and municipal legislation and regulations related to Long-Term Care Homes, along with a valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a vehicle. You are compassionate, patient, dedicated, and are able to multitask and adapt to changing situations. Your ability to work collaboratively with team members while connecting with residents, their families, contractors, and the community will ensure your success in this role.
