About the Opportunity

BAR Engineering is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Civil Engineer to join our Municipal Division in Lloydminster, Alberta on a full-time basis. Under the direct supervision of the Municipal Manager, you will coordinate and manage civil design and construction activities on various projects. More specifically, your duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Planning, scheduling, organizing, directing, controlling, and evaluating projects from start to finish
  • Ensuring project plans and schedules stay on time and within budget
  • Consulting with clients and interdepartmental teams and conducting research to determine project requirements
  • Preparing engineering deliverables
  • Performing and/or leading field reviews and coordinating field survey activities
  • Preparing design specifications and tender documents
  • Ensuring the design and constructed works conform to codes, standards, internal procedures, and regulations
  • Preparing municipal engineering proposals
  • Reviewing and approving designs, calculations, and cost estimates
  • Providing direction for end job activities, including completion reports and final documentation
  • Participating in peer review support and quality control checks within the group
  • Assisting with regulatory/government liaison and permitting support 
  • Assuming responsibility for leadership and supervision of other designers or technical team members forming the project team

More About You

In order to qualify for this role, you will need a minimum of 7 years of experience in civil engineering, preferably in municipal engineering, along with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering recognized by APEGA or APEGS with P. Eng. designation. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. A valid driver’s license with a clean driving abstract is required. 

As our ideal candidate, you will have significant knowledge and experience with civil engineering design and construction, as well as design experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D. You have effective verbal and written communication and negotiation skills, and are a self-motivated team player who excels at fostering working relationships. Moreover, you have strong attention to detail, effective time management and organizational skills, strong decision-making skills, and a proven ability to problem-solve.
