About the Opportunity

CDN Controls Ltd. currently has an exciting opportunity for multiple Electrical Apprentices (1st year through 4th year) to join our team in Fort St. John, B.C. on a full-time basis. Successful candidates will primarily be working on projects located near Fort St. John, with the possibility of working on other projects located throughout Northern B.C. and Northern Alberta. Project shifts will consist of 12 hour days (8 hours regular & 4 hours OT on weekdays, 12 hours OT on weekends). 

Reporting to the Project Manager and working under the direction and supervision of a Journeyman Electrician or Site Superintendent, you will assist with ongoing maintenance, installations, and repairs. This may include: assisting with pulling and installing cables, and assisting with the wiring and installation of cable trays, conduit, junction boxes, and panels. You will be using various tools and equipment, including hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, knives and hacksaws, and power tools such as drills and testing equipment. 

Your essential duties & responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Adhering to all company Environmental, Heath, and Safety policies and procedures set out by the HSE Department Manager
  • Assisting with the maintenance, replacement and installation of equipment
  • Working on a variety of maintenance and construction projects in the oil and gas industry
  • Assisting with cutting, threading, bending, assembling and installing conduits and other conductors and fittings
  • Assisting in interpreting drawings to better help execute electrical installation and troubleshooting in the oil and gas industry
  • Testing electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, voltage, and resistance
  • Assisting with the installation of batteries, solar panels, voltage regulators, EMT and PVC piping systems, failsafe control wiring, etc.
  • Understanding safety legislation, regulations and industry policies in the trades, and practicing safe work procedures

More About You

In order to qualify for this role, you need to be indentured in an accredited apprenticeship program, and be able to identify your year of accreditation. In addition, you need a valid Class 5 Drivers’ license, preferably with a clean drivers abstract, and the following safety tickets:

  • First Aid (Level C with AED)
  • CSO (Common Safety Orientation)
  • Aerial Work Platform (up to 80 feet)
  • Fall Protection – certified by an authorized provider
  • CSTS (construction Safety Training Systems) 
  • ESTS (Electrical Safety Training Systems)
  • H2S Alive
  • WHMIS & TDG (To be provided internally)

Training and/or recertifications may be provided for select safety tickets if needed. In addition, client specific orientations may also be required. Candidates who are motivated, eager to learn, and able to take initiative are strongly encouraged to apply. Contractors are also welcome to apply.

Please note: A drug and alcohol test will be required prior to employment. The ability to follow all Covid protocols, along with the ability to work in various weather conditions and from heights, is also required.

In addition: As per our client site access requirements, the disclosure of vaccine reports may be required, but vaccines will not be mandatory for access. For all non-vaccinated employees, rapid antigen testing may be required for some of our client sites access requirements.

About the Benefits

The successful candidate will be rewarded with a competitive hourly wage of $20.90-$38 based on skills, experience and year level (see below), along with:

  • Wages: J.Man $38.00, 4th year $32.30, 3rd year $28.50, 2nd year 24.70, 1st year $20.90
  • A retention bonus of $2 per hour on all hours worked between October 1st - December 17th, 2021
  • Health & dental benefits after 3 months
