The First Nations Technical Services Advisory Group (TSAG) provides technical services and training for First Nations in Alberta. Our services and training span vast disciplines and include asset management, water and wastewater management, environmental management, housing support services, fire safety, information technology services, and youth initiatives. About the Opportunity
TSAG currently has an exciting role for a Civil Engineer to join our team in Edmonton, A.B. on a full-time basis. The successful applicant will be part of the Asset Condition Reporting System (ACRS) process currently being implemented by TSAG and will liaise with First Nations, and Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) to ensure accuracy and thoroughness in the inspections and reporting procedures.
While no two days will ever be alike, some of your key responsibilities within this role will include:
- Conducting field inspections of water, wastewater and road facilities and reporting on their physical conditions as well as their operational performance
- Preparing reports and cost estimates to correct deficiencies resulting from field inspections
- Liaising with ACRS staff, ensuring accurate and timely reporting standards are always maintained
- Liaising with the Circuit Rider Training Program (CRTP) to identify issues and solutions to issues which may arise, incorporating deficiencies into O&M or Capital Plans
- Ensuring construction plans meet applicable guidelines, standards or codes in effect
- Ensuring that programs and priorities are delivered on a timely basis
- Directing project management services related to scope, quality, cost, and schedule any risks which may impact the life or performance of assets which are planned for construction
- Identifying and planning municipal projects in water and wastewater systems on First Nations communities
- Meeting with project team and contractors to discuss project progress, obstacles and solutions to meet construction timelines and completion dates, if required
- Ensuring QA/QC programs are established and implemented
More About You
In order to qualify for this role, you will need a degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university or technical institution, along with at least 3 years of experience relating to Municipal Facilities with comprehensive knowledge in all aspects of water sourcing, treatment and distribution, as well as in waste water systems. This position will require an individual registered as a Professional Engineer, satisfying all the requirements for registration with APEGA. Project management experience is an asset. This position requires extensive travel throughout the province of Alberta, therefore a valid driver's license is mandatory along with periods of extensive driving and absence from home base.
As our ideal candidate, you will have extensive experience in all aspects of design, construction, operations and maintenance of water and wastewater systems as well as considerable experience in road design, construction and maintenance of roads and drainage systems. You have knowledge and experience with Federal and Provincial codes, standards, rules, regulations and guidelines applicable to water, wastewater and roads along with experience in the operations and maintenance of lift stations and treatment systems.
In order to succeed in this role, you will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with a strong commitment to First Nations and TSAG's goals, objectives, principles and values. Your aptitude for creative problem solving will ensure your success within this role as you work towards competing demands and deadlines. Your flexible, easygoing nature will pair with your interpersonal skills as you liaise with other coworkers and people in the community.
