About the Opportunity
Blue Mountain Power Co-op is seeking a passionate Chief Financial Officer to join our team in Rocky Mountain House, AB, on a full-time basis.
Reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for providing timely, accurate and reliable information that will impact the company's financial and policy decisions. This role will see you supervising the accounting department which is in charge of processing accounts receivables, accounts payables, billing and collections, general ledger maintenance and financial reporting.
Some of your key responsibilities in this role will include:
- Providing research, reviews and recommendations on legal items impacting financial status and goals.
- Support the development of financial systems in a growing organization.
- Participating in developing, preparing, and implementing financial strategies plus a financial/accounting system to ensure that computer and manual systems, processes and protocols, are in place.
- Maintaining the annual budget and work plan by creating performance measures.
- Providing financial advice and strategic management decisions by establishing the financial soundness and risk of proposed acquisitions, divestment of assets, proposed joint ventures and partnerships.
- Guaranteeing compliance with the federal, provincial government(s) and contractual guidelines by applying the relevant legislation and regulations.
- Coordinating and managing all fiscal reporting activities as well as preparing financial reports and statements.
- Developing and maintaining internal control systems to secure financial assets as well as monitoring banking activities.
- Recommending cost-effective benefit plans.
- Maintaining the inventory of all fixed assets as well as streamlining office procedures.
- Providing advice, training and technical assistance to the greater team on financial procedures, systems, operations, and use.
- Conducting regular staff meetings as well as mediating conflicts if required, while promoting team building.
- Monitoring any legal issues affecting the industry and/or involving the company.
- Assisting the General Manager as required to ensure appropriate insurance coverage is maintained.
More About You
In order to qualify for this role, you will need a CPA Designation. Please note that an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
