About the Opportunity 

Currently, Homes First is looking for a dedicated Pest Control and Hoarding Specialist to join our team in Toronto, Ontario on a full-time basis. 

As our new Pest Control and Hoarding Specialist, you'll work to minimize and eliminate bedbug and pest infestations and hoarding issues.

More specifically your responsibilities will include:

  • Using your knowledge of best practices to resolve bed bug, pest, and hoarding issues. 
  • Maintaining co-operative working relationships with Shelter and Housing co-workers as well as interacting positively with the tenant population who have experienced homelessness, mental health, and addiction problems. 
  • Maintaining bed bug/pest control tools and equipment in good condition.
  • Keeping up to date on current technologies and procedures for the minimization and elimination of bedbug and pest infestations.
  • Ensuring adherence to the mission statement, policies, and procedures of the Homes First Society.

In order to qualify for this role, you will have a post-secondary education along with previous experience working with people who are homeless, under-housed, and who are hard to house. Previous experience with RTA is also required as is knowledge of tenant populations, diversity issues, anti-discrimination practices, and systematic reasons for homelessness. Certification in First Aid, CPR, and Crisis Prevention and Intervention are all assets.

As our ideal candidate, you'll have excellent communication skills in both written and verbal form enabling you to work well as part of a team while your ability to self motivate will serve you well when you need to work independently. Your strong organizational, time management, and administration skills will ensure your success in this role as you support a team working to break the cycle of homelessness for people with the fewest housing options.
