An Opportunity to Make an Impact

Due to a period of growth, Higgerty Law currently has an exciting opportunity for both a Paralegal and a Litigation Associate to join our team in Calgary on a full-time basis. These roles will see you working collaboratively to support our personal injury and class action cases. 

As our new Paralegalyou'll support our Litigation Associate through the preparation of files and documents related to relevant cases. Some of your key responsibilities in this fast-paced role will include:

  • Contributing towards trial preparation.
  • Drafting and preparing legal documents required by the Litigation Associate.
  • Working with the Litigation Associate to organize and manage files, documents, and exhibits. 
  • Interviewing clients in regard to personal injuries. 
  • Gathering medical reports. 
  • Assisting in preparing settlement demands. 

As our new Litigation Associateyou'll work collaboratively to support our clients. Though, as a firm, we specialize in both class actions and personal injury claims this role will be primarily focused on personal injury claims. Some of your key responsibilities in this fast-paced role will include:

  • Managing a pipeline of personal injury cases that ensure adequate settlements and client satisfaction. 
  • Developing a system with the Paralegal working with you so that you know and understand each file on an individual basis. 
  • Conducting client assessments and analyzing intake information. 
  • Attending mediations, hearings, and trials as needed. 
  • Negotiating settlements as needed outside of mediation and trial.  

More About You

In order to qualify for the role of Paralegalyou will need a minimum of 4 years of experience along with a background in personal injury.  Previous class action experience is not required but is certainly an asset. 

In order to qualify for the role of Litigation Associate, you will need 3 - 5 years of experience along with a background in personal injury. Previous class action experience is not required but is certainly an asset as is previous trial experience. 

As our ideal candidate for either of these roles, you'll join us with excellent communication skills in both written and verbal form. Your assertive nature and aptitude for attention to detail will ensure you achieve the best outcome for our clients while working towards many competing deadlines. You'll also possess computer literacy and be very comfortable using Microsoft 360 as well as legal programs used to keep track of files. Your problem-solving skills and your ability to work as part of a team will further foster our office culture allowing all team members to achieve their best for both clients and our firm.
