About the Opportunity

360°kids currently has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Residential Program to join our team in Markham, Ontario on a full-time basis. Our youth residential program is a voluntary program that offers a combination of housing and support for youth, primarily 16-19 years of age, who are facing a housing crisis. Youth seeking this service may be unable to reside at home due to abuse, emotional neglect, family dysfunction/breakdown or educational difficulties.

As our new Manager of Residential Programs, you will report to the Director of Programs as you work to realize your vision of operational success and continue to develop and grow a program that supports at-risk youth who are homeless or are risk of homelessness. This strategic role will see you planning, leading, executing, and managing the residential program in accordance with your own expertise and best practice as well as regulatory requirements, 360°kids' policies, and the mission and objectives of the organization. This opportunity will also see you responsible for overseeing the day to day operational management of the Residential Youth Homes which will include directly managing a team of youth workers. 

Your work in this role is to develop, direct, and implement approved strategies and plans that will enable you to make a tangible impact as you work to improve the lives of others. While you will be supported by Senior Management you certainly won't be micro-managed which means you can utilize your experience and skills to build something new and realize your vision for successful program delivery while always remaining within a harm reduction framework.  

While no two days in this exciting role will ever be the same, your more typical responsibilities will include:

  • Offering your expertise and leadership to a range of internal and external stakeholders in order to ensure best practice approaches are understood and enforced when it comes to working with at-risk youth.
  • Developing a vision for the residential program and leading your team towards successfully delivering it. 
  • Collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders in the creation and facilitation of effective partnerships, such as working with the management team to ensure effective integration of all 360°kids' programs. 
  • Representing the organization, alongside the Director of Operations, in its relationships with various segments of community services agencies and other constituencies such as government/regulatory agencies by sitting on committees, task forces, and councils. 
  • Leading and participating in the annual licensing audit by the Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services. 
  • Managing relationships with established partnerships as well as procuring new partnerships to support the program. 
  • Exercising judgement and initiative in managing contact with the Director of Programs and Services, appropriate Ministries, and other interested parties in the event of a crisis or critical incident. 
  • Providing leadership to a diverse staff team including recruitment and selection, training, development, and retention of the program staff in order to ensure ongoing competent, experienced, and effective management of the program. 
  • Managing for high performance by empowering staff through team building, coaching, mentoring, and by providing leadership and support to staff. 
  • Ensuring that appropriate policies and procedures are being utilized by program staff and that all staff complete mandatory recording and reporting. 
  • Assuming accountability for sound financial management and appropriate controls of the program's budget. 
  • Participating in the 360°kids on-call rotation to provide support for staff and program operations outside of core hours in emergency situations. 

In order to qualify for this role, you will need a bachelor's degree or diploma in Social Work or a Child/Youth related field (eg Child and Youth, Social Service Worker, Social Worker, Psychology, Sociology) along with a minimum of five years of experience working with youth as well as five years of management experience preferably in an environment of working with youth. You'll also need a current First Aid/CPR certification, current vulnerable sector screening (criminal background check), as well as a car and a valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract. Experience working with individuals through trauma from a mental health perspective as well as experience working collaboratively with families within a mental health setting is also an asset.
