Position
Operator, Waste Management, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Supervisor, Site Services, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Collect and sort all waste materials on-site, including segregation and consolidating into bulk containers;
- Properly label all waste materials for storage or transportation, following safety regulations and site guidelines;
- Review current procedures and protocols, suggest improvements for better system operations, and address safety issues through audits;
- Responsible for Incinerator Stack Testing;
- Operate the incinerator according to specifications and conduct daily inspections;
- Dispose of contaminated soil in land farm or assigned waste bin and train colleagues in correct waste handling procedures;
- Communicate relevant information about the conditions in the workplace, progress, events, and potential problems to the workers in the next shift;
- Maintain logs of the amount of waste generated on site and types; this will be compiled into weekly reports to management;
- Arrange and transport waste backhauls as required, ensuring delivery to hauler; monitor the wood burning process; and
- Implement B2Gold Nunavut’s procedures for the collection, transport and disposal of waste, in compliance with all regulations and legal requirements.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- One (1) year of skilled labourer experience, working at a mine site and/or remote location;
- High school diploma or GED;
- A valid WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) certification and TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) certification are required;
- Ability to comprehend, read, write, and converse in functional English to ensure safe working conditions on site and in position.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $94,393.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $34.25 and overtime rate of $51.38) in a work year.
