Position
Senior Contract Geologist, Nunavut – Up to 1 year contract
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Manager, Exploration, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Oversee comprehensive field studies, including geological mapping, sampling, and core logging, to assess mineralization potential and guide exploration strategies;
- Collect and analyze geological data, interpret findings, and contribute to resource estimation;
- Supervise the drill program, conduct rig safety inspections, taking the lead in coordinating interactions with the drill contractor;
- Use specialized software and geological data such as Leapfrog to create 3D models of ore bodies and geological structures which helps in visualizing the distribution of gold deposits;
- Interpret geological data, including drill core logs, assay results and geophysical data, to help develop geological models and resource estimates;
- Assess geological risks associated with mining operations, such as structural instability, ground control issues, and geological hazards. Develop strategies to mitigate identified risks;
- Prepare technical reports, geological maps, and presentations summarizing exploration findings, resource estimates, and geological interpretations for the Manager, Exploration or designate; and
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, health and safety protocols, and B2Gold Nunavut’s policies in all geological activities.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- Five (5) years’ experience in drill core logging and drill contractor management; Prior experience working in a remote camp setting with limited access to resources considered an asset;
- Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or related discipline is required;
- Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) designation and membership in the Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist (NAPEG) or ability to obtain same; and
- Experience in Orogenic/Banded Iron Formation (BIF) gold and familiarity with MX Deposit and Leapfrog.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $137,800.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $50.00 and overtime rate of $75.00) in a work year.
