Position
Specialist, Indigenous & Northern Affairs, Nunavut – This is an 18-month maternity leave coverage
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Director, Indigenous & Northern Affairs, this position will be a fully remote role, with regular travel, including travel to the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut.
Responsibilities
- Support the work of the Supervisor, Indigenous & Northern Affairs, and Coordinator, Sustainability, and Inuit Support Coordinators to ensure annual workplans and required tasks are being completed and priorities are being executed;
- Work closely with the Community Relations, Environment, Human Resources and Procurement teams to oversee the execution of the Project’s operational licenses;
- Support the execution of Indigenous & Northern Affairs led projects and programs;
- Collect data and draft monthly, quarterly, and annual socio-economic and social governance internal and external reporting;
- Track stakeholder engagement using a Stakeholder Management System (Borealis) for the Project;
- Support internal implementation of the Back River Project Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreement (IIBA), and other agreements between B2Gold Back River Corp. and the Kitikmeot Inuit Association;
- Participate in Socio-Economic Monitoring Working Groups and associated activities.
- Support the Human Resources Team in developing and implementing effective strategies to attract, hire, and retain Kitikmeot Inuit Project employees;
- Support the Project Operations Team by working collaboratively to develop and implement Inuit specific training programs and plans;
- Assist in tracking the Team’s budgets and accounts payable;
- Support the Director, Indigenous & Northern Affairs, & the Manager, Environmental Permitting in regulatory review processes, as needed; and
- Maintain tracking system to regularly assess B2Gold’s performance towards achieving agreement objectives, and report on findings.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- Three (3) to Five (5) years’ experience working in the resource development industry focused on stakeholder and Indigenous engagement, social impact and performance, and/or sustainability.
- Experience with socio-economic and/or environment impact assessment, monitoring and reporting; and
- Post-graduate degree, preferably in environmental studies or social science, legal, public policy, and administration.
Priority hiring consideration given to Kitikmeot Inuit, Nunavut Inuit, and Residents.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary for this position is $95,000.00
