Senior Mine Engineer - Underground

The Company

 B2Gold is a low-cost international senior gold producer headquartered in Vancouver, Canada. Founded in 2007, today, B2Gold has operating gold mines in Mali, Namibia and the Philippines, a mine under construction in northern Canada and numerous development and exploration projects in various countries including Mali, Colombia and Finland. B2Gold forecasts total consolidated gold production of between 860,000 and 940,000 ounces in 2024.

Position

Senior Mine Engineer - Underground, Nunavut

Location and Reporting Structure

Reporting to the Chief Mine Engineer, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada. Some flexibility with the schedule may be required until first gold in Q2 2025.

Responsibilities

• Prepare short to medium-range development and production designs, plans and schedules;
• Coordinate and prioritize underground activities with the Manager, Underground Mining;
• Process and review development and production survey data from the underground mining department;
• Develop drill and blast designs and track backfill efforts;
• Design and implement ventilation strategies for underground lateral development and production;
• Manage explosive forecasts and order timing for production and development explosives;
• Produce QA/QC and reconciliations including physicals tracking, compliance and reporting;
• Underground design implementation support and inspections; and
• Conduct surveys and studies of ore deposits, ore reserve calculations and mine design. Plan, develop, coordinate and conduct theoretical and experimental studies in mining exploration, mine evaluation and feasibility studies relative to the mine development.

Desired Competencies and Requirements

• Five (5) years of experience underground mining experience in metals mining, including two (2) years of experience in overseeing the work of Engineers in Training (EIT) and engineering technologist level staff.
• Bachelor's degree in geological/mine engineering (B.Eng);
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and membership in the Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist or ability to obtain same.  Professional registration is mandatory; and
• Demonstrated proficiency in underground drill and blast planning, design and scheduling of underground development and stoping and knowledge of underground surveying and ventilation.  A practical understanding of underground mining operations including longhole open stoping and cemented rockfill backfilling methods is an asset.
• Proficiency in mine planning design software such as Dwswik, Surpac, MineSight or similar.

Compensation and Benefits

B2Gold Nunavut offers a competitive compensation package, including salary commensurate with experience, knowledge, and skills, plus a group benefits package for employees and their dependents. The estimated salary for this role is $168,000.00 per annum.
