Position

 

Supervisor, Underground Electrical, Nunavut

 

Location and Reporting Structure

 

Reporting to the Superintendent, Underground this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Plan, supervise, and assist in the installation, maintenance, repair, and commissioning of underground electrical systems, including transformers, switchgear, communication systems, conduits, cables, and other related equipment/infrastructure in compliance with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), B2Gold Nunavut’s safety policies and procedures and other applicable regulations;
  • Supervise the installation, testing, and startup of instrumentation and control systems, and manage document control to ensure updates to electrical schematics are recorded accurately;
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with Nunavut and federal regulations related to underground electrical work, including OSHA and NFPA standards, and lead the development of the department’s procedures and safe work instructions (SWI);
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and hazard assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks and conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for underground mine electrical activities;
  • Oversee daily shift operations, assign tasks based on individual skills and project requirements, ensuring optimal team performance and resource allocation;
  • Engage with the Technical Services and the Mine Maintenance departments to ensure equipment is fit for use and plan preventative maintenance requirements with a focus on meeting short and long term targets;
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all work performed, including installations, maintenance activities, repairs, and safety incidents; and
  • Oversee the correct use and storage of high voltage PPE and coordinate the re-certification intervals.

 

 

Desired Competencies and Requirements

 

  • Seven (7) years’ experience working with underground electrical systems and three (2) years of experience in a lead hand role;
  • Red Seal Journeyperson Industrial Electrician certification; familiarity with reading electrical schematics and prints is required, with preference given to those with a working knowledge of the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment in mining operations; and
  • A Nunavut WSCC Supervisory Level II qualification, or ability to obtain same.

 

Compensation and Benefits

For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $164,340.28 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $59.63 and overtime rate of $89.45) in a work year.
