Position
Director, Marine Laydown Area, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the General Manager, Goose Site this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all MLA operational activities including logistics, warehousing, equipment & facility maintenance, Winter Ice Road (WIR) construction and ground transportation, local camp management and health safety & environment;
- Plan, schedule and coordinate the offloading and transfer of fuel, materials, supplies and equipment from marine ships, vessels and barges to shore; optimize logistical processes to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness;
- Manage the storage, cataloguing, inventorying and eventual disbursements of fuel, materials, supplies and equipment.
- Lead the construction of winter ice road (WIR). Ensure all construction activities are carried out safely, on time, and within budget;
- Direct the transportation and logistics of the WIR, including relocation of equipment, products, and supplies from MLA to their final destination;
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to safeguard personnel, assets, and reputation; and
- Provide leadership and guidance to all MLA divisions either directly through local, or indirectly, through functional leadership and foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment focused on safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- Fifteen (15) years of work experience in transportation, construction or logistics; with a minimum of five (5) years in a management capacity; including, planning, organizing, and directing the work of staff and contracted services.
- Bachelor’s degree in administration, logistics, engineering; or significant additional vocational experience and credentialling in these fields;
- A Project Management Professional (PMP) or a Professional Logistician (P.Log) designation, are consideration factors; and
- Specialized experience in marine, air and ground transportation and ice road construction is preferred.
