The Company
B2Gold is a low-cost international senior gold producer headquartered in Vancouver, Canada. Founded in 2007, today, B2Gold has operating gold mines in Mali, Namibia and the Philippines, a mine under construction in northern Canada and numerous development and exploration projects in various countries including Mali, Colombia and Finland. B2Gold forecasts total consolidated gold production of between 860,000 and 940,000 ounces in 2024.
Position
Contract Geologist, Nunavut - Up to 1 year contract
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Manager, Exploration. This position is a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Log and sample drill core, record information from core logging into the system;
- Collect and interpret geological data from exploration programs, including drilling, and re-logging;
- Occasional preparation of drill core for logging, and sample shipments as required;
- Collaborate within a team and also work independently to maintain a highly organized core shack;
- Provide report on work completed to the Manager, Exploration or designate;
- Support geological and geophysical programs in a safe and efficient manner;
- Participate in daily toolbox meetings to promote compliance to B2Gold Nunavut’s safety policies and procedures; and
- Ensure the work area is free of any hazards (ex. tripping hazards).
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- Two (2) to five (5) years’ experience drill core logging and drill contractor management;
- Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or related discipline (required);
- Prior experience working in a remote camp setting with limited access to resources considered an asset;
- Familiarity with MX Deposit considered an asset;
- Experience in Orogenic/Banded Iron Formation (BIF) gold is considered an asset;
- Physically able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs., walk and stand for long periods of time and perform physical labour; and
- WHIMS Certification and/or Level 1 First Aid considered an asset.
