Position
Carpenter - Construction, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Superintendent, Carpentry & Scaffolding this position will be a fly in- fly out 6x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain wooden structures, including support beams, platforms, and equipment housing, to ensure the safety and efficiency of developments on site;
- Accurately measure, cut, and shape wood using hand and power tools, following blueprints, plans, and specifications;
- Construct, assemble and install wooden components, including walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs, to create functional and durable structures;
- Perform repairs and renovations to wooden structures as needed, ensuring that they meet safety and operational standards;
- Diagnose and complete repairs as required using hand or power tools in a safe and efficient manner and make recommendations for major repairs to supervisor for planning purposes;
- Ensure that all carpentry work meets high-quality standards and is in compliance with relevant codes and regulations;
- Document work done in accordance with site procedures and maintain related records such as maintenance logs;
- Report deficiencies in site construction stocking levels as required to the supervisor;
- Collect and remove garbage and salvageable materials from completed work to ensure the safe disposal and/or storage of wood and garbage as necessary to maintain a clean and hazard free workspace; and
- Operate a motor vehicle to pick up and move goods and supplies. Load, unload, and identify construction materials, machinery, and tools and distribute them to the appropriate locations.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- Three(3)- Five(5) years’ experience as a Carpenter in an industrial, construction, or mining environment;
- Red Seal Journeyperson Carpenter Certificate is required;
- Valid driver’s license required;
- Experience working in a remote environment with limited access to resources, with experience working in surface or underground mining environment preferred; and
- High School Diploma or equivalent considered an asset.
