Position

 

Team Lead, Airstrip, Nunavut

 

Location and Reporting Structure

Reporting to the Site Service Supervisor, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Oversee all aspects of airstrip operations, including scheduling, coordination of flights, and ground support activities;
  • Ensure the airstrip is safe and operational by regularly inspecting, repairing damages, and clearing debris to meet aircraft safety standards;
  • Collaborate with logistics and site management to prioritize flight schedules based on operational needs and resource availability;
  • Implement and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) to optimize efficiency and safety in aircraft movements and ground operations;
  • Manage logistics related to air transportation, such as fuel supplies, loading and unloading cargo, and handling customs and clearance procedures when required;
  • Serve as a point of contact for communicating with pilots, ground crew, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and address any issues or emergencies that may arise; and
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies, including medical emergencies, aircraft malfunctions, or accidents, by coordinating with emergency services and implementing emergency procedures.

 

 

Desired Competencies and Requirements

 

  • Four (4) years of experience in Airstrip operations, with at least 1 year as a Lead Hand;
  • Heavy Equipment Operating Certification considered an asset;
  • Previous experience working on a remote site in Arctic conditions with limited access to resources, is desirable; and
  • Prior experience working with Indigenous groups in a professional capacity.

 

Compensation and Benefits

For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $119,886.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $43.50 and overtime rate of $65.25) in a work year.
