Position

 

Senior Surveyor, Nunavut

 

Location and Reporting Structure

Reporting to the Chief Surveyor, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

 

Responsibilities

 

 

  • Plan and execute surveys for mining operations, including topographic, volumetric, and underground surveys;
  • Assist the Chief Surveyor in developing best survey practices, methods, and procedures and establishing and reestablishing survey control;
  • Coordinate with Surveyors providing support on daily task schedules;
  • Complete topographic surveys and layouts, blast hole layout, mine and road design, and assist with mine/construction planning projects;
  • Create necessary files for field layout and accurately report volumes for documentation purposes;
  • Utilize electronic distance measuring equipment, global positioning systems (GPS), and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV/Drones) to perform day to day tasks;
  • Coordinate the organization of buried utilities for survey and layout, while maintaining precise records of their locations;
  • Participate in organizing dig permits; Participate in drone surveys;
  • Ensure that stakes are accurately laid out in the field according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and that survey schedules are adhered to;
  • Ensure compliance with Ministry and Departmental regulations pertaining to Blast-Hole surveys;
  • Install required monitoring devices; Ensure required instruments are read as per scheduled readings; and
  • Record survey data and ensure the accuracy of documentation for required weekly and monthly reporting. Report findings of survey data to Chief Surveyor, Engineering team, and Senior Management teams as required.

 

 

Desired Competencies and Requirements

 

  • Six (6) years’ experience in a Senior Surveyor role with experience in open pit mining and construction environment;
  • Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Geospatial Science, or related field;
  • Strong technical skills in Deswik, AutoCAD, TBC and DJI; Experience with Trimble controller and Total Station is preferred; 
  • Advanced RPAS Pilot’s License preferred and a valid Driver’s License is required; and
  • Ability to walk 5 kilometers or more for 10 hours daily in adverse weather conditions.

 

 

 

Compensation and Benefits

For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $148,824.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $54.00 and overtime rate of $81.00) in a work year.
