Position
Concrete Finisher - Construction, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Superintendent, concrete this position will be a fly in- fly out 6x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, leveling, and applying appropriate coatings or treatments to enhance the durability and appearance of the concrete;
- Set up and remove formwork according to project requirements, ensuring accurate dimensions and proper alignment;
- Perform skilled finishing work on concrete surfaces, including smoothing, leveling, and troweling to achieve the desired texture and appearance;
- Set up and dismantle concrete forms, ensuring they are properly aligned and secure before pouring concrete;
- Assist with the pouring of concrete and ensure it is distributed evenly and accurately;
- Apply curing compounds and sealants to protect and enhance the durability of finished concrete surfaces;
- Finish concrete surfaces using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment;
- Inspect finished surfaces for defects, such as cracks, rough spots, or unevenness, and make necessary adjustments and repairs;
- Work closely with concrete mixers, concrete pump operators, and heavy equipment operators, to coordinate and complete projects efficiently; and
- Adhere to all B2Gold’s safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment, including the proper handling of materials and equipment.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- Five (5) years’ experience as a concrete finisher in mining or oilfield building and construction, with preference given to those with experience working on a remote site with limited access to resources;
- Experience in finishing techniques, such as troweling, brooming, and stamping, and the ability to operate related tools and equipment. Knowledge of concrete mixtures and curing processes is a plus;
- Interprovincial Red Seal Cement Finisher or Nunavut CoQ desired; and
- Highschool diploma or equivalent required.
