Position
Vertical Development Miner, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Superintendent, Underground, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate Alimak equipment, including Alimak Raise Climbers, to transport personnel, materials, and equipment within vertical or inclined shafts.
- Participate in other areas of underground development as required, including the safe and efficient operation of underground mining equipment inclusive of, but not limited to: LHD (Scooptram), bolter, jumbo, haul truck, raise bore, jackleg, stoper, or scissor deck, to build, repair, and maintain underground passageways;
- The safe and efficient advancement of the mining face using conventional mining techniques and bolting/screening lateral development tunnels to reach predetermined daily, weekly, and monthly underground targets;
- Conduct routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on Alimak machinery to ensure optimal functionality and compliance with safety standards;
- Utilize best practice for mine advance such as mechanical installations (pumps and piping), scaling loose rock from walls and roof, drilling and installing rock bolts, extending, maintaining, and installing air and water pipes, repairing and extending ventilation duct and equipment, operating ore/waste loading machinery, inspecting mine tunnels, and constructing timber supports and cribbing if required;
- Set up and operate drills and drilling machines to produce a designated pattern of blasting holes to load explosives and detonate explosives from blasting patterns to produce designed tunnels/raises with acceptable fragmentation;
- Assess ground conditions at the face and assist with the installation of ground control according to preset plans;
- Performing pre and post operational inspections of Alimak equipment to ensure the safe operation, report all deficiencies to supervisor; and
- Attend safety toolbox meetings to promote compliance with B2Gold’s’s safety policies and procedures and other general mine labourer duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- Five (5) years’ experience of Proven experience operating Alimak equipment in an underground mining environment preferably in a remote mining setting with limited access to resources combined with three (3) years of experience in conventional underground drill and blast development;
- Experience in Alimak/raise climber mining role or related required;
- Valid driver’s license required; and
- Completion of Secondary School or equivalent considered an asset.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $168,116.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $61 and overtime rate of $91.5) in a work year.
