Position

 

Alimak Mechanic, Nunavut

 

Location and Reporting Structure

 

Reporting to the Manager, Underground , this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct routine inspections, scheduled maintenance, and critical repairs on Alimak equipment, including hoists, elevators, and related machinery;
  • Implement a detailed Alimak maintenance program, ensuring that equipment operates safely and efficiently;
  • Perform comprehensive inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on various heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, loaders, cranes, and more;
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues promptly;
  • Identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy machinery and Alimak equipment;
  • Develop, execute, and continuously refine preventative maintenance plans, extending the lifespan of equipment and reducing unexpected failures;
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, parts used, and equipment conditions for compliance and reporting purposes;
  • Manage spare parts inventory to ensure rapid repairs and minimize downtime;
  • Adhere to B2Gold’s safety protocols, guidelines, and standards to ensure a safe working environment; and
  • Participate in safety toolbox talks and follow all site policies & procedures to ensure compliance.

 

Desired Competencies and Requirements

 

  • Three (3) years of post-qualification industry experience, preferably in an isolated remote setting with limited access to parts and resources;
  • Interprovincial Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Nunavut Heavy Equipment Technician CoQ;
  • Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and performing maintenance on the following (but not limited to) equipment: Alimak equipment, Sandvik jumbos, MacLean’s bolters, Sandvik load and haul fleet, and other underground support equipment;
  • Previous experience in mining, heavy industry or construction is considered an asset.

 

 

Compensation and Benefits

For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $168,116.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $61 and overtime rate of $91.5) in a work year.
