Position
Chief Mine Geologist, Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the Manager, Technical Services, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Manage the mine geology team, ensuring that development, production, safety and quality targets are achieved;
- Conduct, train and supervise the geology team on grade control processes, geological logging, mapping and sampling of active faces and other exposures underground and/or on the surface;
- Lead the preparation and interpretation of geological, geotechnical and resource modelling. Compilate, reconcile, and report on resource inventory. Prepare production data compilation for stockpile tracking and mine-to-mill reconciliation for weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports;
- Compile and review mapping and ore routing data with production and modelling geologists to provide quality geologic ore body knowledge to the mine engineering and operational teams;
- Lead, manage and validate grade control processes and data; including grade control systems, assay results, downhole survey, geology logging and QA/QC and other data collected during underground and exploration sampling and drilling;
- Facilitate learning opportunities for and assist with the professional development of the geology team and other technical services staff; and
- Liaise and coordinate with engineering, open pit and underground department to achieve operational objectives and participate in Short, Medium and Long-Term Planning functions for the project.
Desired Competencies and Requirements
- Ten (10) years of experience in production geology, grade control, geological and geotechnical logging, drilling management or similar in a mechanized hard-rock mine in both Open Pit and Underground Operations with five (5) years of experience in overseeing the work of supervisors and specialized professional level staff;
- Bachelor's degree in Geology/Geosciences (BSc);
- Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo) designation and membership in the Nunavut Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist (NAPEG) or ability to obtain same. Professional registration is mandatory; and
- Demonstrated proficiency overseeing open pit and underground geological techniques. Exposure to a broad range of drilling techniques. Exposure and experience in geostatistical resource estimation techniques and block modelling and QA/QC of drilling Data. Ability to coordinate the delivery of Geological processes.
Compensation and Benefits
For informational purposes, the starting annual salary for this role is $175,000.00 plus 20% Bonus.
