Position

 

 Operator, Water & Sewage Treatment Plant, Nunavut

 

Location and Reporting Structure

Reporting to the Camp Manager or Designate, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Ensure that all systems, mechanics, equipment, is maintained and in good working order;
  • Responsible for daily operations and maintenance of sewage treatment plant, water plant, and lift stations;
  • Operate the water treatment system including pumps, valves, filters, instrumentation and control strategy, chemical analysis, and alarms;
  • Monitor process parameters and conditions including pressures, turbidity, free chlorine, flow rates;
  • Understand biological and chemical requirements outlined in the operating permit and understanding of biology and chemistry as it pertains to the operation of the STP;
  • Maintain data logging of process parameters and collect water samples for third party laboratory analysis;
  • Follow maintenance plans and schedules for equipment and perform online and secondary monitoring equipment calibration;
  • Understand the STP and septic tank physical operation, process flow, pumps, valves, instrumentation, UV System, and interaction with the lift stations;
  • Perform preventative maintenance as described and schedule per the Operators Manual;
  • Monitor system parameters and record data in an electronic log file;
  • Review third party laboratory results and record data in electronic file and investigate results that may be outside the normal operating range;
  • Monitor system parameters and record data in an electronic log file and identify potential concerns early and address and troubleshoot problems as they arise;
  • Maintain and repair heating and cooling systems and verify laboratory equipment and calibrations;
  • Understand lift station operation and interaction with septic tanks and STP;
  • Maintain Lift Station Pumps and Floats ensuring they are cleaned and in good working order at regular intervals per maintenance schedule and pump hours;
  • Maintain spare pumps and other components to ensure lift stations operate without production interruption; and
  • Adhere to all B2Gold Nunavut safety policies and procedures.

 

Competencies and Requirements

 

  • Five (5) years of treatment plant operator experience working in a remote site with limited access to resources;
  • Canadian Water Treatment Plant Operator Level II or equivalent required, red seal Journeyman ticket preferred; and 
  • Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and data management systems.

 

Compensation and Benefits

For informational purposes, the estimated annual earnings are $146,068.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $53.00 and overtime rate of $79.50) in a work year.
