Position
Manager, Mining Nunavut.
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the General Manager, Goose Site, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operations of the mine while ensuring future production will be able to meet targets;
- Coordinate with the construction team to ensure material balance targets are met and construction work scopes are achieved;
- Support the work of the mine technical services including engineering, planning, and grade control;
- Collaborates with HME Maintenance to ensure equipment is available when required for production activities, assist with planning and scheduling of equipment downtime;
- Interacts with Plant/Processing in terms of mine production plans, forecasted grades, and overall daily communication of feed to the plant;
- Guides the safety and environmental performance of the mining team at the site ensuring all B2Gold policies and standards are met or exceeded;
- Controls the costs of the mine operations and looks for ways to optimize operations or lower costs;
- Analyzes underground air ventilation and quality surveys and assessment of ground conditions and assessment of rock support;
- Oversees the issuance of driving layouts and KPI tracking of underground development and ensures the accuracy of mine survey record maps, plans, plots, profiles, and reports;
- Carries out the short, medium, and long-term earthmoving equipment forecasts in order to determine the capital requirements;
- Compile annual budget for the mining department and projects capital cost requirements well in advance of expenditures;
- Manage mining leadership team to meet targets and support operations, enforce discipline and accountability on Team Members;
- Mentor direct reports in accordance with the succession plan and talent management principles;
- Continuously analyze and scan the entire mining work environment and explore all possible options for optimize existing mining plans; and
- Oversee Contractors in accordance with set targets and contracts.
Competencies and Requirements
- Fifteen (15) years working experience in the surface and underground mining discipline with ten (10) years in senior management roles. Preference given to those with experience working in remote sites with limited access to resources;
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with NAPEG, or ability to transfer;
- Proficient in mining related software such as Deswik (CAD, Sched, IS), Ventsim, Pumpsim, Unwedge, etc.
