Position

 

Health & Safety Trainer/ Advisor, Nunavut 

 

Location and Reporting Structure

Reporting to the Supervisor, Health & Safety or Designate, this position will be a fly in- fly out 3x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada. 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Ensure a safe environment for all site employees, drilling contractors, and visitors. Promote and implement controls to ensure compliance with relevant acts and regulations, promote continuous improvement of performance through Health & Safety programs and procedures;
  • Perform fixed camp and in-field safety related inspections, assist with incident investigations, and aid departments with job hazard analysis development to ensure compliance of relevant acts, regulations, and B2Gold Nunavut’s Health & Safety program;
  • Act as a first aid and emergency responder to field crews and assist with fixed camp emergencies as directed by Supervision;
  • Conduct training and orientations relative to exploration procedures, tools, equipment, and practices including helicopter safety/rigging (heli) support activities;
  • Liaise with departments regarding cross functional needs, schedules, and related operational requirements;
  • Assist with environmental monitoring activities;
  • Assist with heli support activities (rigging); and
  • Any other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager/s.

 

Competencies and Requirements

 

  • Five (5) years of experience in Health and Safety or Emergency response preferably working in remote environmentally challenging work-place settings. Preferred candidates will have three (3) to five (5) years of experience in exploration mining, project development, or the construction industry;
  • Level 3 First Aid Certification, ICS (incident command system) and  Rope Rescue and/or certified rigging experience;
  • Experience working with helicopters;
  • Environmental experience (basic monitoring etc.); and
  • Computer literate including word processing, spreadsheets and email programs required.

 

Compensation and Benefits

For informational purposes , the estimated annual earnings are $129,532.00 for 2184 scheduled hours (combined regular hourly rate of $47.00 and overtime rate of $70.50) in a work year.

B2Gold Nunavut offers a competitive compensation package, including salary commensurate with experience, knowledge, and skills, plus a group benefits package for employees and their dependents.

Due to high occupancy during this phase of construction the successful candidates(s) may be assigned shared accommodation. In this event, the incumbent(s) will be eligible for a $40.00 per day shared accommodation allowance.
