Position
Superintendent, Carpentry & Scaffolding , Nunavut
Location and Reporting Structure
Reporting to the General Manager, Construction, this position will be a fly in- fly out 6x3 rotation based in Nunavut, Canada.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all general carpentry, repair work, and other related mechanical, repair, electrical, maintenance work as required on site buildings (including basic repairs such as appliances, installing switches, replacing plugs, painting, and other finishes, repairing walls, dissembling, and reassembling equipment, replacing sinks and/plumbing, etc.) are completed to B2Gold Nunavut construction plans;
- Coordinate location and timing of scaffolds required in a wide range of weather conditions while working with other trades in a team environment to achieve best-practices regarding efficiency, safety, and production;
- Ability to understand and provide feedback on construction IFC drawings, mine plans/ schedules, and blueprints;
- Formulate plans for erecting and building scaffolding and ladders needed to assemble structures;
- Inspect installations for quality, accuracy, and compliance with drawings, specifications, codes, and regulations;
- Ensure construction , assembling and dismantling of scaffolding is completed to specifications;
- Establish and monitor preventative maintenance procedures and schedules for buildings, grounds, and other related equipment to ensure buildings and site meet all safety, fire regulation, and environmental policies; and
- Document work done in accordance with site procedures and maintain related records such as maintenance logs.
Competencies and Requirements
- Ten (10) years’ experience as a Carpenter/Scaffolder working on industrial projects with three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity, with preference given to those with experience working in a remote environment;
- Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter and /or Red Seal Journeyperson Scaffolding Ticket (SAIA) required;
- Experience with multiple types of scaffolding, such as tube and clamp, system scaffold, and safety scaffolding; and
- Valid driver’s license.
Compensation and Benefits
B2Gold Nunavut offers a competitive compensation package, including salary commensurate with experience, knowledge, and skills, plus a group benefits package for employees and their dependents.
Due to high occupancy during this phase of construction the successful candidates(s) may be assigned shared accommodation. In this event, the incumbent(s) will be eligible for a $40.00 per day shared accommodation allowance.
