POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the manager, drug programs, the data analyst analyzes, evaluates, researches and reports on PharmaNet prescribing data.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- liaise with Ministry of Health to obtain monthly prescribing data downloads
- sort and upload relevant prescribing data into CPRS tracking system
- analyse prescribing trends in BC
- provide reports to the College for purposes of education and remediation
- analyse statistics of program performance measures for Prescription Review Program and Methadone Program, and provide data outcomes with provision of outcomes data for senior management and Board evaluation
- provide assistance to Drug Programs staff relating to data collection and validation, methodologies, analysis of performance indicators; perform other related duties
- provide statistics for annual and Ministry of Health reports
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Required skills and qualifications include:
- bachelor’s degree in computer science, health informatics, health-related sciences, statistics and/or related field plus two years of recent experience including one year of data analysis, research, evaluation in a healthcare setting, or equivalent education, training, or experience
- experience and/or knowledge in performance measurement, developing and/or supporting database solutions for health care and/or public health as well as supporting and troubleshooting laptop/desktop and Microsoft Office tools such as Excel/MS Word and other software is an asset
- comprehensive knowledge of and demonstrated ability to use advanced computer software including SQL Server, SPSS and Microsoft Office tools (e.g. Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint)
- comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated ability to perform and interpret non-parametric, univariate and multivariate statistical analyses
- comprehensive knowledge and demonstrated ability to identify appropriate statistical analysis and graphical display for the data and measurement objectives
- comprehensive knowledge of data stewardship and data security best practices
- demonstrated ability to consolidate and analyze statistical information and strong report-building ability
- excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills
- ability to function independently and as part of a team
- ability to deal effectively with staff at all levels of the organization and public in a courteous, tactful, and diplomatic manner
- high degree of discretion and maturity in handling confidential information and situations
- experience dealing with large data sets
- ability to communicate credibly about research results and data
- demonstrated administrative, problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- excellent judgment, and analytical, research and interpersonal skills
- strong attention to detail and excellent quantitative skills (mathematics and statistical)
- strong time and priority management skills, particularly when meeting deadlines
