POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the clinical and practice support officer within the Physician Practice Enhancement Program (PPEP), the medical device reprocessing (MDR) assessor is responsible for assessing, supporting, and educating community-based physician offices that reprocess reusable medical devices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • act as a medical device reprocessing expert and role model
  • provide medical device reprocessing expertise to physician offices that include providing information, recommendations and solutions on reprocessing issues based on Ministry of Health best practices for medical device reprocessing and College standards
  • co-ordinate the day-to-day operations and activities of MDR physician office assessments
    • perform pre-assessment activities
  • review results of pre-assessment questionnaire and other information submitted by physician office
  • contact physician office to arrange for a remote and/or on-site MDR assessment
  • respond to inquiries related to MDR assessments and best practices
    • perform MDR assessments and reassessments in physician offices throughout British Columbia
      • conduct MDR assessments of the physician offices in accordance with Ministry of Health best practices for medical device reprocessing and College standards
      • provide on-the-spot feedback, information and education to physician and/or office staff responsible for MDR
      • work with physician and office staff to ensure compliance with Ministry of Health best practices for medical device reprocessing and College standards
    • perform post-assessment activities
      • prepare MDR assessment summary reports identifying requirements and recommendations to be addressed by the physician office with associated timeframes for completion
      • prepare other reports as required
    • undertake general duties
      • collaborate with clinical and practice support officer on MDR-related issues
      • contribute to program development related to MDR assessments based on experience and knowledge in the field
      • attend meetings and functions at the direction of PPEP leadership
      • perform related duties as assigned

DECISION-MAKING

  • assess physician office MDR activities across the province based on BC Ministry of Health Best Practices for medical device reprocessing and College standards
  • identify best practices, opportunities for improvement, and follow-up actions required to address outstanding requirements

ACCOUNTABILITY

The MDR assessor must have strong initiative and self-motivation, be able to work independently and be accountable for their own work. Teamwork within PPEP is essential, as well as collaboration with various departments within the College. 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Required skills and qualifications include:

  • recent experience working in the field of medical device reprocessing
  • experience conducting medical device reprocessing assessments / audits in a health care setting an asset
  • education, training and experience in a related discipline and possess related experience with all aspects of medical device reprocessing
  • completion of a program/course in medical device reprocessing from a recognized post-secondary institution (for example Certificate as a Medical Device Reprocessing Technician)
  • completion of a basic Infection Prevention and Control course an asset
  • familiarity and experience with all types of medical device reprocessing equipment and their uses.
  • supervisory experience an asset
  • demonstrated ability to work independently and make decisions to determine appropriate action to take in handling inquiries
  • demonstrate effective interpersonal skills necessary to interact in a professional manner
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • evaluation and critical thinking skills
  • ability to educate, coach and advise utilizing a variety of teaching methods and techniques
  • ability to organize and set work priorities
  • ability to exercise good judgment in recognizing scope of authority and protecting confidential information
  • possession of a valid BC driver’s licence
  • ability and willingness to travel
